EGCG is associated with a lot of weight loss benefits and matcha has a lot of EGCG. In fact, according to a 2003 analysis by the "Journal of Chromatography", matcha tea has 137 times more EGCG than regular green tea.
To boost your metabolism and lose weight, there aren’t many things more helpful than Matcha tea. In a recent double-blind study, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition divided a large number of healthy Japanese men with similar BMI and waist circumference distributions into two groups. The first group drank one cup of Matcha tea a day for a twelve week period and the second ‘control’ group instead drank a regular black tea. Macha Tea contains a higher content of catechins (690 mg) compared with black tea (22mg), and catechins are known to directly assist with weight loss. After twelve weeks, the researchers observed that body fat mass, BMI body weight subcutaneous fat area, and waist circumference were all “significantly lower” in the group regularly drinking Matcha Tea. From these results, the study confidently concluded that, “Daily consumption of tea containing 690 mg catechins for twelve weeks reduced body fat, which suggests that the ingestion of catechins might be useful in the prevention and improvement of lifestyle-related diseases, mainly obesity.”
Drinking Matcha Green Tea is also recognised to increase metabolism and help to burn fat four times faster than on average. The really good news is that Matcha tea produces no negative side-effects such as high blood pressure or increased heart rate.
